I have been very impressed by the TransferWise MasterCard Debit Card to date.

The account was easy to set up, and the card simple to order, and a quick turnaround meant I had it within a week of ordering it online.

Funds were easy to transfer onto the card, both from my bank and other sources, so that I can use it.

I’ve set up my card so that I can pay in Euros, but realise that no matter where I travel, within reason, using the card will be easy, and very cost-effective.

If you have someone who wants to pay you money from another country, they can pay it in their currency, and once you receive it, you can transfer it into the currency of your choice, at a really competitively-priced charge.

All charges and fees imposed by Travelwise are very much cheaper than many banks.

Downloading the app is simple, and this is where you can access your PIN (which you can change via an ATM), view your statements, and much more.

Please just remember that the first transaction you make will require CHIP and PIN, after which you can use contactless (up to £30, or equivalent overseas).

This is a debit card and not a credit card, so therefore you can only spend what you have available, and no more. You should therefore keep an eye on your available funds to avoid any declined charges.

Having recently been on holiday to Spain, I can safely say that this card has worked perfectly.

With just one hiccup, which was entirely of my own doing, where I inadvertently froze my card, which meant the transaction was denied.

However, after a call to the Transer Wise help desk, everything was swiftly sorted out, and I was able to use my card without any issues.

What is brilliant is that you get an app notification appear on your phone, every time your card is used. This is so helpful, as it tells you what balance you have left.

I really have had excellent use of this card, and would not hesitate to recommend people to get their own and use it whilst abroad, or get people to pay them in a wide range of foreign currencies.

Remember one very important thing though. Whenever you use your card ALWAYS pay in the local currency and not GBP. You’ll save a load of money on transaction and conversion fees!
